Most people think all stress is bad, but the truth is that some stress is actually good for you. Good stress, aka eustress, is a short term stressor that activates genetic pathways to help strengthen our immune system. Examples of this type of stress include training in a gym, sitting in a sauna for 10-20 minutes or working up a sweat from doing yard work. Bad stress, aka distress, is long term stress that has an overall negative effect on our health. A couple of examples of distress include chronic anxiety and overtraining.
Dr Rhonda Patrick explains the differences between the two types of stress, as well as many other helpful health benefits we can benefit from using the sauna.
