Are food preservatives bad for you?


Should you be worried about preservatives? The results aren’t conclusive.


The 2 main factors that cause food to go bad are microbes and oxidation. Preservatives can prevent both types of deterioration.


Nitrates and Nitrites can also be used to preserve food but eating these foods in excess may be linked to some diseases and cancers.


Sugar and salt can also preserve foods, but too much of those substances can lead to high blood pressure and diabetes.


So the rule of thumb to live by is ‘eat these foods in moderation’.
